This is a true story.
We invested November 1 – November 9, 2024 as travel days to attend The NALP Elevate Event and the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) Expo. Nine consecutive days on the road has its challenges!
It was an unusual time to be on the road traveling as the presidential election day was November 5, 2024. It felt weird to be at a trade show and the education event on election day.
As the results from the presidential election came in overnight, we were surprised, but very pleased with the results.
As we interacted with lawn, landscape and tree care professionals, we instantly heard positive feedback about the election results.
Within two days after the election, we recorded the best week of sales/orders we have received in almost four months. In other words, we saw first-hand an improvement in forward looking economic confidence from business owners.
That’s a good thing! Business owners drive economic investment, and that drives our economy. We instantly felt good about the results and saw tangible evidence others felt the same way.
But it turns out the world is full of opinions. Based on election results, a little less than half of the opinions differ from ours. But we think of business owners as folks who care deeply about economic growth.
We sent out a message to summarize the feedback we were getting during our journey. Here’s an excerpt from our email from TCIA on 11-7-24:
“The excitement around this show…as we all ponder the impact of a second Trump term as president… is amazing. Business owners are full of hope today!
I can tell you that the anticipation of a brighter economy, tax relief and support of business expansion instead of pointing toward businesses as “greedy b*st*rds” is refreshing today.
If you are attending the TCIA event, come by and say hello. We are at booth 1627.”
We thought this to be a pretty non-toxic message. But… we forgot about those who do not have our opinion. We received a reply that really surprised our team.
One contractor who had been following us for several years suddenly asked to be removed from all our future communications. He believes “America has nothing but fear, trepidation, and chaos on it’s horizon.”
Regardless of which side you may find yourself, we truly believe that your beliefs will dictate your future. If you see abundance and success, you will find it. If you believe in scarcity and uncertainty, that’s just what you will find.
We do believe that small businesses will be strengthened based on the election results, and that’s why we are excited!
