Dear Lawn and Landscape Business Owner:

Your truck should be a rolling sales machine. Either it brings you leads…or it hauls your profits to the landfill. I’ve seen these mistakes coast to coast—don’t be that crew.

1) No truck sign at all (bad idea).
If your truck is naked, you’re paying insurance, fuel, and Fedzilla fees to drive a ghost. Put that space to work. When you have signs on your truck, every stoplight is a sales call. Every parking lot is a trade show. No sign = no shot.

2) Too much logo, no reason to call.
I love a crisp logo, but if it’s the only thing on the side, you’ve built art—not a sales tool. You need a headline that helps a stranger say “That’s for me.” Try: “Need Help Landscaping?” or “Want a Clean & Green Lawn?” Follow with a clear call to action: “Scan for Video”, “Scan to Schedule” or “Call for a Free Lawn Analysis.” Yes, it’s ok to be different than the competitor down the street!

3) Incomplete contact info (no area code).
Don’t make folks guess. Always include the full phone number with area code. Big. Bold. Legible at 40 mph. If you change numbers, update the sign. Confusion kills conversion.

4) Tiny or missing web address.
Your website is the showroom that never closes. If your URL is missing or ant-sized, you’re losing after-hours shoppers. Keep it short and readable. If your domain is a mouthful, use a QR code. Really, your QR code should take people to the perfect introduction video on your website. You start the sales process without lifting a finger or burning a gallon of gas.

5) Weak fonts and low contrast.
No italics. No cursive. No wispy nonsense. Don’t try to be cute. Use bold block fonts and contrasting colors (dark-on-light or light-on-dark). Test from across the parking lot at dusk. If your crew can’t read it in three seconds, neither can buyers.

6) No people in the picture.
Landscaping is personal. Show a human—the owner, a foreman, or the crew smiling with clean gear. People buy from people they trust. A friendly face boosts credibility faster than a thousand flowery words. Smiles are sales tools! Most landscapers miss the opportunity to use this simple strategy to build their bank account!

6) Failure to add video.
Take your sales efforts to a whole new level by inviting prospects for a digital introduction. That truck sign could take you three more steps down the sales process with a little techno-know-how. That QR code could be step 1, step 2 and step 3 to deposit your next check when you automate your sales effort.

Let’s wrap this up.

Pro Tips from the field

  • Put a QR code with “Scan to get help now.” Link it to a short owner intro video and a scheduling page.
  • Repeat phone + QR on all four sides (both sides, front of truck, rear of truck). Prospects and buyers are all around you.
  • A picture is worth…a smiling face grabs attention and builds trust…a thousand words. “Landscapes you’ll love are one call away”.
  • Yes. Your truck signs have room for improvement. We can help you grow using a spoonful of creativity mixed with an ounce of techno-gold. You’ll automatically walk your prospects 3 steps to writing you a check.
