Did you attend the Elevate Conference with NALP last week? We were there. Here are a few highlights: 1. The opening keynote speaker was Shawn Achor, author of The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work. His research has proven that your attitude about your business, your current situation and your future can be altered by the people you associate with. The lesson… if you hang around with negative people, you’re going to become a negative person. On the other hand, if you’re the type of person that smiles, exudes positive energy and shares that with those around you, you will influence others to behave in a similar manner. Sean did a terrific job… Highly recommended speaker! 2. The Elevate Show continues to promote and educate on the subject of Mergers and Acquisitions. In the pages of The E-Myth Landscape Contractor, we explain that every business owner will exit their business one day. And… we believe that you should do everything in your power to prepare your company to be as valuable as possible… so that when you exit… it is a financially successful event! For all of the risk you assume and the aggravations you put up with, we believe you must have a goal to build a company worth more than a million dollars. You need a 7 figure or 8 figure exit. But… I am concerned at the quantity of Mergers and Acquisitions going on in our industry. Where will we be 10 years from now with the number of owner-operator entrepreneurs who built a company from the ground up and have all the pride of ownership associated with that business model? I’m not sure… But what I do know is we will keep showing up and promoting the idea that your lawn or landscape business can get better, can become more valuable, AND can provide an amazing financial future for you and your family. 3. Along the road of landscape entrepreneurship, I’ve met thousands of landscape professionals, and I’d like to introduce you to a couple of them in this recording of the Green Side Up Podcast! While at the Elevate Show, I had the chance to sit down.. or should I say stand up.. with Jason Lee and Jordan Upcavage. We recorded the 45th episode of this podcast.
